Lessons - How it works

Individual tutorials

I provide one to one tutorials for students studying their A-levels, working towards the International Baccalaureate, or at Undergraduate level at University. Additionally, I can provide pre-AS-Level tuition in any of my subject areas and can help with the transition between AS-Level and A2-Level, easing students into something which can otherwise be quite daunting. I am happy to mark mock exams, essays and other forms of exam practice students have undertaken.

EFL Assistance

Completing the Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) enables me to offer lessons in English as a second language. More commonly, I use this training to assist those studying subjects I already tutor. Being able to understand the linguistic difficulties faced by international students enables me to help them overcome the barriers they face studying at advanced level in an unfamiliar tongue. The skills gained can also be helpful in providing guidance for those with specific educational needs, for whom essay writing can present additional challenges.

A-level tuition

The transition from GCSE to A-level can prove to be very demanding and many students require guidance to assist them in some of the more challenging aspects of their chosen subjects. Indeed, at any stage of their sixth-form career students may need a helping hand to get on top of their studies. I offer assistance with study skills including essay writing, reading and interpreting academic texts, time-management and exam practice. These can help students to positively develop their organisation and general approach towards their work. In addition, I offer subject-specific tutorials in sociology, psychology, philosophy and religious studies. All tutorials are individually tailored to the exact requirements of each student, offering the kind of flexibility that is not always available in the classroom.

Revision courses

I have recently started offering group revision courses in response to the high demand for expert tuition, specifically in exam preparation. I offer Christmas, Spring and Summer revision workshops, attended by current students and new recruits alike. In keeping with the friendly and informal nature of my teaching, these structured courses provide students with a reminder of subject specific content as well as offering the opportunity to practice exam questions and receive feedback, all in one fast-paced but manageable day. Lunch and ample revision materials are provided and any follow-up queries are welcomed. Please contact me for further details of upcoming workshops that might be of interest.

Distance Learning

Where students are unable to visit me for home tutorials, perhaps because they are studying abroad or the journey is not feasible, I offer distance learning over Skype or FaceTime. This is ideal for international students or those studying in cities other then Oxford. I can construct a correspondence course involving Internet tutorials, marking work remotely and returning this by email, a system that seems to work well, particularly in the case of editing dissertations or other important pieces of work. As your online mentor I am able to play a supportive role whatever your educational requirements.

International Baccalaureate

Preparing for the IB can be particularly difficult owing to the comprehensive nature of the curriculum. If you are looking for a private tutor to assist you with any aspect of your course, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. Tutorials in North Oxford are available, as is distance learning, Easter and Summer courses and one off lessons to cover any areas you feel you need to work on.

University tuition

I am delighted to offer assistance and guidance to those studying at University level in the form of tutorials (both home tutorials and distance learning), proof reading of your dissertation or thesis. If you require any help, just get in touch.
